Scrap metal
Yesterday I got the external hardware removed from my leg and a cast put on. What a different feeling. Now I don't have to be quite as cautious to no hit it against things. Things are going in the right direction.

If your leg has not returned to full function before the trip, and you find yourself unable to shift, I will be happy to trade machines with you.
A cast must be a thousand times better than all that hardware.
